Youth in Philanthropy

We share the vision that young people need opportunities to develop the skills to be the future leaders and stewards of our community.

Youth flourish from being active in philanthropic deeds which give them ownership and pride, sense of self-worth, offer a fresh perspective on community needs, and are an asset to the community.

Purpose

An opportunity for high school students living in Wapello County and attending Ottumwa High School, Cardinal High School, Eddyville-Blakesburg High School, Pekin High School, or Home School to make an impact in their communities, learn the ins and outs of nonprofit organizations, and grant funds to organizations which benefit youth.

By joining Youth in Philanthropy, students can make a positive impact in their communities while teaming up with other students in Wapello County.  Through the program students will visit local nonprofit organizations, delve into community needs, grant money to causes benefiting youth and potentially fulfill community service hours.

The program will provide the skill-set needed for leadership throughout a lifetime.

Youth in Philanthropy teaches the next generation the importance of community giving.  Students meet September through May to learn about the Wapello County Foundation and other community nonprofits and raise funds to make grants steered by student decisions.
